Frequently asked questions
Why do I need to remove panels to replace my roof?
Asphalt shingles cannot be replaced under a fixed solar array. Even minor leak repairs under panels usually require taking that section off because the rails and flashings sit on top of the shingles being replaced.
How long are my panels off the roof?
For a typical re-roof, the panels are off for 1-3 days. For a leak or skylight repair, often less than 1 day. We coordinate so the array is back up as quickly as possible.
Will my solar warranty stay intact?
Warranty requirements vary by system, manufacturer, and ownership agreement. For leased, PPA, or other third-party-controlled systems, the provider may require authorization before removal and reinstallation. NovaLee documents the work and can coordinate required authorization when applicable, and any system-specific requirements should be confirmed before work begins.
Can NovaLee remove and reinstall panels if my solar system is leased or under a PPA?
Yes, in many cases. If another company owns or controls your solar system, you may still be able to use NovaLee for the removal and reinstallation. NovaLee can work with you and the system owner or provider to coordinate any authorization required before work begins. Requirements vary by system and agreement.
Do I lose my net-metering credits during the project?
Your PSEG Long Island net-metering account stays open during the work. You will simply produce zero kWh while the system is down — typically a few days of normal household consumption.
Can you remove panels for a leak repair under just one panel?
Yes. We can selectively remove a small section of the array, do the leak repair, and reinstall the same day in many cases.
Do you reuse the old roof attachments?
Never. Old roof penetration boots and EPDM washers fail in 10-15 years. We always install fresh flashings and ice-and-water shield collars during reinstall.
Does NovaLee install brand-new standalone solar systems?
NovaLee currently focuses on services for existing solar systems, including panel removal and reinstallation for roof replacement, troubleshooting, cleaning, critter guards, battery storage, and related electrical work. We do not currently advertise standalone new solar-system installation.
